The Vine Post is written by me, Laura Schermeister, co-owner of Schermeister Winery alongside my winemaker husband, Rob. He makes our low-intervention, small-batch wines, and I do the creative work of label design, photography, website design, and writing. It’s a fun way to do life, balanced by magical moments and a little bit of suffering (fellow small business owners can surely relate). In the tasting room, we take a “no B.S.” approach to sharing our own wines, and hope you find inspiration in my perspectives.
Whether you’re into wine for the indulgence, the history, the culture, or AGRI-culture, I’m here to open up honest conversations about one of the most gate-kept consumer topics in modern-day society.
What is it about wine that captivates us so much? Why do so many wineries portray it as only something for the ultra-rich? How is it becoming demonized in an ever-shifting world of drinking habits? When did wine become so stuffy? It doesn’t have to be.
There’s a common ground, and wine is the champion for that space. Steeped in history and tradition, yet malleable enough to take on modern interpretations, wine has the power to save us all. It’s farming, science, sensorial, creative, intuitive, aesthetic, and communal, all bottled into one glass vessel. One wine has the power to shift the course of your entire life (it did mine).
I write for real people: newbies interested in understanding the basics, wine enthusiasts looking for a little more geekery, and industry professionals who want to feel excitement and a new sense of discovery in their field.
